Abortion on Demand- What Does it Mean?

Abortion on Demand

What does demanding pregnancy termination mean, and why do few people think it is bad to do so? How does it impact reproductive healthcare and policy decision? Basically, abortion on demand is the concept where a female who asks for the service either at a clinic or a recognized similar platform will get the facility without having to face restrictions or hurdles. When a female wants to buy abortion pill, her need for the medicine is questioned, and then enormous burden of procedures put, which can hold up the healthcare.

By restrictions and difficulties we mean:

  • The delays as waiting periods and medically inaccurate recommendations
  • Counseling sessions, pay for unnecessary ultrasound measures
  • Notifying patents for consent. Having to take permission from the judiciary to waiver the consent parameter. The list is huge.

Discrimination over Abortion Availability

Demanding pregnancy ending service also means women who are over 20 or 24 weeks pregnant to get free from conception if a severe birth defect is defected, making the child live for only mere minutes or days after birthing. Another idea is to get the service of ending pregnancy irrespective of the place of residence, race, religion, income, legal laws, and other aspects.

It means even a transgender man who in reality is a woman, can get pregnancy terminated by a safe healthcare procedure, without enduring discrimination or hassles. Many think that demanding a particular healthcare is not that great and rude. However, the idea is misunderstood as no one goes storming into a clinic and puts the doctor on gunpoint ‘demanding’ pregnancy termination.

Why Asking for Abortion should not be a Crime?

There is a protocol followed with an appointment made and tests done, but any negativity around the procedure is a result of opposite perception i.e. why women should have the right to end their pregnancy? If women wish to buy abortion pills, they will want to know the details about it as to when and how the pregnancy happened and other things.

  • Is it not unjustified to rake a woman further who maybe already going through a rough patch, to stop her or judge her over the decision to end a pregnancy? What is the reason for implementing obstacles to a sensitive and critical medical procedure?
  • Forcing people to take multiple appointments, then see the ultrasound image, get lectured on false and misleading data string from religious ideology.
  • Counseling only about how to not end a pregnancy, despite she may need it so badly not only by choice but due to a health issue.

There is a time for everything, and it is high time when regulatory bodies and policymakers pull down their masks of well-wishers and look at the reality. There are women who do not have access to basic needs, lest birth control or even abortion services, and the hype is all about how to make the necessary facilities more difficult to obtain. Where is the world going to? Just because of certain beliefs and ideologies how far is it right to restrict an important health care to women?
